Catalog View

Ordinary Run Mode

Catalogs can be hierarchical and non-hierarchical. Nomenclature is an example of a hierarchical catalog, and Currencies is an example of a non-hierarchical catalog.

There are two types of catalog hierarchy: hierarchy of folders and items and hierarchy of items. For the first type the assortment of attributes used for a folder may vary from the assortment of attributes used for an item; a dedicated form is normally developed to add folders; selection of folders can be forbidden in the fields of this type. For the catalogs with items hierarchy every item can serve as a folder. In outward appearance, the hierarchy is defined by the list of commands and icon types in the table rows.

For a hierarchical catalog a list form can contain a folder tree.

A catalog folder is a set of joined items, such as "Stationery", then the items of the catalog will be pencils, pens, etc.

In a catalog, the icon marks folders while the icon is intended for items.

Folders and items can be marked for deletion. Items marked for deletion are marked with strikeout icons.

In order to switch to folder items, you will first need to open the folder using one of the following actions:

  • double-clicking the table row containing the name of the desired folder

or

  • placing the cursor in the row containing the name of the desired folder and pressing Ctrl+Down Arrow

or

  • placing the cursor in the row containing the name of the desired folder and selecting Actions — Level Down.

When a selected folder is opened for viewing, the icon is replaced by the . The names of the folder and all top-level folders will be displayed in the top rows of the catalog list.

To return to the previous level, you can press Ctrl+Up Arrow while in any row in the folder, or select Actions — Level Up.

If you need to “jump” across several levels, double-click the row containing the name of the desired folder.

A catalog can be viewed using general techniques for work with table box of a form.

Using the Folder Tree

The relationship between the folder tree and the catalog item list (the behavior of the list when a folder is selected in the folder tree) is set during task configuration development and can vary.

The folder tree and catalog list can be viewed independently (if this behavior was specified during development of the particular form). You can move through the tree, expanding the branches of interest, and it will have no effect on the view in the catalog list.

On the other hand, moving through the catalog list—opening the contents of folders, switching from one folder to another, and so forth—also has no effect on the folder tree.

You can learn the procedure used to work with a particular catalog by reading the configuration description.

Managed Run Mode

Catalogs can be hierarchical and non-hierarchical. Nomenclature is an example of a hierarchical catalog, and Organizations is an example of a non-hierarchical catalog.

A catalog folder is a set of joined items, such as "Stationery", then the items of the catalog will be pencils, pens, etc.

The hierarchical catalogs may be of two types: catalogs with folder and item hierarchy and catalogs with item hierarchy. In outward appearance, the hierarchy is defined by the list of commands and icon types in the table rows.

In a catalog with hierarchy of folders and items, folders are displayed using icon , and items are displayed using .

In a catalog with hierarchy of items, icon is used to display both folders and items.

Folders and items can be marked for deletion. Objects marked for deletion are shown using strikeout icons.

For hierarchical catalogs, you may display the list in different modes, and navigate across the hierarchy levels.

Use the List command to switch the display mode of table rows to "linear" list.

Use the Hierarchical List command to switch the display mode of table rows to hierarchical tree view. In this mode, marks  and appear to the left of the first column text (after the icon column). Clicking icon (or double-clicking the folder name if the catalog features folders and items hierarchy) will open the level and display the items and folders included in this folder while the icon will be replaced with . Clicking the  (or double-clicking the folder name) will collapse the folder. Double-clicking the folder name (for the catalogs featuring items hierarchy) will open the item. For catalogs with items hierarchy, icons appear in every row while for the catalogs with folders and items hierarchy they only appear in those rows that contain folders.

In this mode, you can move through the hierarchy using the following commands: "Go up one level and Go down one level.

The Tree command also switches the display mode of table rows to hierarchical view. Unlike in the Hierarchical List view, the table displays the entire structure of the catalog. In this mode, marks  and  appear to the left from the text of the first column (after the icons column). These marks are somewhat smaller than that used in the Hierarchical List mode.

Searching in a Catalog List

You can search for information you want in catalog lists according to the rules for searching lists, which you can learn in the List Searching help topic.
