Configuration repository administration

Use this dialog box to simplify the configuration repository administration. To open this dialog box, on the Configuration menu, point to Configuration repository and click Repository administration.

The Users tab contains user list management controls. The names of active users (users currently working with the repository) are displayed in bold type.

The user properties editing procedure can be used to change a user name or set a new password.

Users with administrative rights can also add new users to the list and set their passwords and rights. An administrator can release objects locked by other users when these users are not working with the repository.

The Connections tab displays a list of users connected to the repository. The names of active users (users currently working with the repository) are displayed in bold type. The Disconnect button can be used to disconnect an inactive user from the repository.

The Release locks tab is intended for releasing objects locked by inactive users.

The Other tab is intended for clearing local and global configuration version caches, optimizing repository data, and specifying configuration repository compatibility mode.

Local configuration version cache

A local configuration version cache is only used when the configuration repository is located on a network drive or when the repository is located on a server. All configuration users can specify local cache settings.

In the Directory box, specify the directory where you want to store the local configuration version cache.

In the Maximum size box, specify the maximum cache size (in MB). When the cache reaches the maximum size, the platform deletes the earliest versions until the cache size is less than half of the maximum size.

Clicking the Clear cache button clears the configuration version cache directory.

Global configuration version cache

Only users with administrative rights can specify global cache settings.

In the Maximum size box, specify the maximum cache size (in MB). When the cache reaches the maximum size, the platform deletes the earliest versions until the cache size is less than half of the maximum size.

Clicking the Clear cache button clears the configuration version cache directory.

Optimizing repository data

If the compatibility mode is set to Do not use and at the time the window was opened the platform determined that the repository required optimization, the following interface items become available: the Optimize button that starts the optimization and the Prompt for optimization after performing repository operations check box.

Clicking the Optimize button starts the optimization of configuration repository data.

If the Prompt for optimization after performing repository operations check box is selected, the platform checks whether the optimization is required. If optimization is required, the platform prompts users with administrative rights to optimize the data storage after the following operations:

  • Storing objects to the repository
  • Rolling back object versions in the repository
  • Merging object versions in the repository
Compatibility mode

Version 8.3.2:

  • This is the default mode for configurations created prior to version 8.3.2
  • The repository structure is compatible with the platform version 8.3.2
  • Optimization of the repository server is not available

Version 8.3.3:

  • This mode is set for repositories created using the platform version 8.3.3 or later that never had the compatibility mode set
  • The new repository database structure is used
  • The interaction with the repository server is optimized

Do not use:

  • This is the default mode for newly created configuration repositories
  • The new repository database structure is used
  • Optimized creation of configuration repositories both on the local disk and on network resources
  • Optimized process of storing objects to configuration repositories

You can change the compatibility mode by clicking the Set compatibility mode button. Once you confirm the operation, the configuration repository is converted to the selected format. This can take significant time. When the administrator changes the compatibility mode, users that are currently connected to the repository will see the following message on their next attempt to perform a repository operation: "The configuration repository compatibility mode was changed. To be able to perform operations with the configuration repository, you have to reconnect. Connection to the repository is established when you open the configuration or at the first attempt to perform an operation with a configuration repository after the connection was closed (by selecting Configuration - Configuration repository - Close repository in the main menu)."

You can cancel the execution of a repository operation by pressing Ctrl+Break.

Use the Update button to refresh the data displayed in this window.
